THE GHOST ON THE HIGHWAY
Inspired by the picture in "Will I Think Of You?" - "Only on the Highway"
Second Prize Winner, Leonard Nimoy Convention, November 1983
Your photograph haunts me,
Ghost on the highway of time -
You are there - but not there,
As in reality.
Your arms are beckoning - welcoming -
Here I am, come to me.
Your spectral form tantalising,
There on the horizon -
You are smiling,
But not for me.
Your picture is the very essence
Of a fan admiring her special actor -
You are there
But not for me.
I long to see you more clearly -
I run to you along the highway.
Your ghostly form never moves
But you are always the same distance away.
I'm chasing a dream
I can never quite see -
You are there
But not for me.
