THE GALAXIES OF TIME

Jim stands beside me
In companionable silence
As we gaze, together, towards infinity
On the starship's darkened observation deck.
No words are spoken
None are necessary
As we stand alone, yet not alone, with our thoughts.
I feel from him
A sense of wonderment and joy
At the simple fact
That I am here, beside him, now;
And I also feel
His deep grief at the price he had to pay
For my continued existence.
We have cheated death yet again
And for that we must rejoice.
There is much still to do - together.
There will be time
For happiness, human joy and laughter
Which we shall share.
There will be time
For us to race again in a silver starship
Across the galaxies of time,
Beyond Infinity.
And after we gaze together in awed appreciation
At the beauty of the Universe,
We regard each other in silent communion,
Eyes filled with the pleasure of each other's company,
Hearts filled with the joy of being,
Minds filled with the knowledge that,
For us,
There will still be
Time.
